Reading/Language Arts/Phonics

  • Review consonant, short vowel, and digraph (sh, th, ch, and wh) sounds.
  • Memorize the First Grade High Frequency Words.
  • Singular and plural nouns/irregular plural nouns
  • Proper nouns
  • Consonant blends (bl, nd, st, etc.)
  • Contractions
  • Verbs (present and past tense)
  • Synonyms and antonyms

 

Reading Comprehension

  • Name and describe the characters as well as the setting.
  • Prediction (guess what will happen)
  • Inference (use clues to understand better)
  • Sequence Events (put them in order)
  • Compare and Contrast (similarities and differences)
  • Cause and Effect (what happened, and why)
  • Retelling stories
  • Identify the problem and solution.

 

Writing

  • Practice writing first and last name.
  • Use printing lines and spacing correctly.
  • Practice printing letters neatly and correctly.
  • Write a complete sentence with a naming word (noun) and an action word (verb).
  • Capitalize the word “I”.
  • Use correct end punctuation.
  • Expository paragraphs (informational/non-fiction)
  • Narrative paragraphs (real and make-believe stories)
  • Use descriptive words.

 

Math

  • Read, write, and count numbers to 100.
  • Count backwards.
  • Use the tens and ones place, and regroup ones into tens.
  • Draw pictures to add.
  • Add vertically and horizontally.
  • Write and solve addition sentences.
  • Solve addition word problems.
  • Use a number line and Touchmath dots.
  • Find one more, one less, 10 more, and 10 less than a given number using a hundreds chart.
