What Are We Doing?

November

  • (Newly added skills to learn)

 

Reading Language Arts/Phonics

·      Review consonant, vowel, and digraph (sh, th, ch, and wh) sounds.

·      Blend short “a” words.

·      Blend short “i” words.

·      Memorize the First Grade High Frequency Words

 

Reading Comprehension

·      Prediction (guess what will happen)

·      Inference (use clues to understand better)

·      Sequence Events

·      Compare and Contrast

·      Cause and Effect 

 

Writing

·      Write a complete sentence with a naming word (noun) and an action word (verb).

·      Use printing lines and spacing correctly.

·      Capitalize the word “I”.

·      Use correct end punctuation.

·      Practice printing letters neatly and correctly.

·      Practice writing first and last name.

  • Write Expository (informational) paragraphs that have a Topic Sentence, 3 facts, transitions (first, next, last, etc.), and a conclusion.
  • Quick Writes/Quick Sketches
  • Journal writing
  • Use descriptive words.

 

Math

·      Read, write, and count numbers to 50.

·      Count backwards.

·      Use the tens and ones place.

·      Draw pictures to add.

·      Add vertically and horizontally.

·      Write and solve addition sentences.

·      Solve addition word problems.

  • Organize and graph data.  Then answer questions about the graph.
  • Use doubles to add.
  • Use a number line and Touchmath dots.
  • Find one more, one less, 10 more, and 10 less than a given number using a hundreds chart.
  • Use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to solve problems.
  • Write and solve subtraction sentences and word problems.

 

Social Studies

·      Family, community, and moving to new homes

·      Leaders and rules

  • The history of Thanksgiving
  • Pilgrim life
  • Native American life

 

Science

·      Matter (solids, liquids, and gases)
